These are some of my favorite photographs by Francesca Woodman.
Francesca was born in 1958 in Denver, Colorado to George and Betty Woodman (who are both artists). She began taking photographs when she was thirteen and in 1975 she attended the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1977 she studied in Italy as part of a RISD honors program. After graduating RISD in 1978, Francesca moved to New York and sent many portfolios to fashion photographers but was unsuccessful. In 1981 she committed suicide.
Francesca worked primarily with medium format cameras. There is much disagreement about the meaning of her work. Some if it focuses on focuses on the body, space, geometries and movement within a photo. While she did photographs others, she most often produced self-portraits.
